Earlier this week, I was invited as a guest on the Bossing It podcast by Found & Flourish. Found & Flourish is run by Lara Sheldrake and Frankie Cotton, a couple of London-based entrepreneurs on a mission to close the opportunity gap for female founders.
I first met Frankie at a General Assembly event I was speaking at and it was comforting to meet someone at the same life stage as me, trying to make the dream of running a successful business a reality. We spoke about the start-up world and the unrealistic perceptions that seem to paint a perfect picture of being an entrepreneur. You tend to meet lots and lots of entrepreneurs and founders at speaker and networking events and there is always a hopeful ‘lets definitely keep in touch’ or ‘it would be great to meet for a coffee’. I myself am guilty of not following up with people I have met as time just seems to slip away as your head is buried deep in the runnings pf your business. However, Frankie and I met on a few more occasions and we seemed to just click.
I was invited to be interviewed on Found & Flourish’s brilliantly refreshing podcast, to share my very real and honest account of the rollercoaster ride I’ve been on with my business My Icon Story in the first two years. Starting a business from scratch single-handedly and self-funding has its peaks and troughs and especially a few hard lessons learnt along the way.
In the podcast I discuss:
- Transforming My Icon Story from side hustle to full time business
- The mistake of not owning 100% of my website code in the early stages
- Self-funding and investment decisions
- Leveraging iconic brands to build an audience and gain competitive advantage

A huge thank you to Frankie and Lara for having me as a guest on the show and giving me such a wonderful and welcoming platform to share the story behind My Icon Story.
