3 years ago (before My Icon Story existed) Founder Laura Lane had her own product design company called Laura Alice Prints and developed a minimalist range of London themed products. From bone China tea and espresso sets, screen printed cushions, gift wrap, jewellery and stationery.
Whilst developing the range featuring minimalist London icons, Laura designed a refreshingly simple London Marathon print featuring a stylized River Thames and multicolour landmark icons that are prominent on the route. When My Icon Story launched, a lot of the product range had sold out but because the London Marathon print never out-dates, we decided to continue to sell the prints under the My Icon Story brand.
The print proved super popular and every year it is an absolute joy to see orders for this wonderful print come through. We’ve even had repeat purchases from customers who have taken part in multiple years, and even more exciting is the number of request we have had to introduce other city Marathons. Paris, Brighton, New York have all been requested and we wanted to make sure that every personalised Marathon print under the My Icon Story brand visually looked like it belonged. BRIGHTON MARATHON: with the coastline being such a prominent part of the Brighton Marathon route, we were keen to make the beach and sea a standout feature on this print.
PARIS MARATHON: most similar in design to our London Marathon print, the Paris Marathon design features the River Seine along with the stunning landmarks along the route and visible from across the river itself.
NEW YORK MARATHON: our first vertically designed Marathon print, New York’s iconic island shape made it an obvious and only decision to create a vertical print. This is also the only print to feature a route line which we felt would be a great addition to really highlight the route around the famous Central Park.
